I’m thinking of getting a wimax connection where i live and ive come accross a potential problem. The wimax unit will supply me a lan wire through which i connect to the internet with, can i connect this unit to the Dlink router (which i already own) so i can use it as a hub as well as a wireless access point?(instead of buying a new router).

Mobile Broadband?

I am pricing laptop computers, and I noticed that many offer options for mobile broadband. What I don’t understand is why I would need it! If my (potential) laptop has a wireless card, isn’t that all I would need to access the internet? What is the advantage of mobile broadband?

By the way, I know that a wireless card can only access the internet at a hotspot, and I know that mobile broadband requires a subscription service.

I will be in Germany in Feb for a trade fair. I need to buy a mobile broadband connection (USB dongle), because at the fairground Wi-Fi is around Euro 50 for a day & I will also have to pay for wifi at the hotelapartment I am staying the week at.

So is there any place I can buy a mobile broadband connection in Germany for my laptop without having to sell my clothes & belongings??

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, these are 2 questions in one :)
First of about internet speed.

I got wimax and when i plug in lan cable in other pc or lap top it works perfectly but in mine speed is terrible. I got 2mbit connection but in mine its like 400kbs.
What could be problem? I got no programs that could be limiting it or something :s

And now about format.
So to fix speed problem I’m gonna format hdd(i hate doing that, gotta burn like 200gb now and will take days to get pc to be normal) should I do classic format or just insert windows cd and click reinstall?

And beside installed programs and files I got, what other important things should I back up before formating because I don’t want to screw something up for later, like missing drivers or some pc part not working :s

Oh and no, I will not take it to service for this.
400kbps not kbs my mistake.
It’s downloading at speed like 20-40kbs

I’m tired of trying to find hotspots–I want internet access on a handheld device at all times. I read about evdo, wimax, etc. What is your opinion of the best device I should look into purchasing. I’m not really looking for phone access, just a handheld that will let me access things like my Yahoo/Hotmail from anywhere. Any suggestions? Thanks.
3G was mentioned–any specific pieces of hardware anyone recommends?
