Ali asked:

I have a computer having the following configuration.

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 GHz 2.39 GHz
Intel Pentium D865GBF Board
96 MB built in graphics memory
512 MB DDR2 Kingston RAM
80GB Hard Drive
Lite-on-it CD R-RW
ASUS DVD Drive
Toshiba Floppy Drive
D-Link Network Adaptor attached with a motorola WiMAX Wireless Broadband Gateway.

I have windows xp proffessional service pack 2, never re-installed since 2002.

The problem is that since past few days, now my computer takes precise 2 minutes to reach the logon screen. Before, that was not a problem because it only had to take a few seconds to reach the logon screen. It also checks the floppy drive while logging on even if i un-installed my AVG Free Edition. There is nothing installed which has to check my floppy drive, but still it checks while logging on. There is no virus in my computer I know, not even any spyware.

But, my hard drive now suffers from 16KB of bad sectors. I don’t think it has to do with the logon process.
Once the computer passes the logon screen, everything works fine and smooth like a new computer.
Yes it tries to read something, but no program right now wants to do that, not even the windows itself.

And for you Linux OS, I never installed it since 2002, and don’t want even now. And thats not the solution you are talking about, its like buy a new computer, and not to take care of the one you already have. Anyways, thanks.
mani, what if you disable those extra booting devices? Nice try anyways.
Jesse C, yes you are right, so?
What ever that fits in my board djfear12… And all of you are talking about what ever I have already checked but in vain. Any ways thanks. I’ll still be looking for the best answer.
Everything is doing great as soon as the computer passes the logon screen. The only problem is it takes too long while booting (where the blue tabs scroll under windows proffessional logo no a black screen just before the logon screen).
lchasser, I have gone through all the utilities already before I put the question here. CCleaner helped to clean the registry but not the problem I am in right now.

i would put all your personal files on disks and do a system restore. Then update all your drivers. You`ll notice a massive difference.

The log in screen like where you click your user name then have no idea what would be bios might want to make.
The floppy hard drive going bad or something if youre actually at the comp first boots it looks for the comp first boots it may be disabled in screen like where its checking for boot disk but thats just guessing.

so here is a link to troubleshooting your board on intel.com

while i was there, i noticed that this board supports ddr400, not ddr2 you stated. Since ddr2 has a different physical design, it wouldn’t fit it this board anyway…so what type of memory are you using?
